Does the Nanny movement monitor is safe to use?

Nanny is an EU certified medical device. Its production and selling are being governed by Act No. 268 of medical devices, which is based on European Council Directive 93/42 EEC.

Medical devices are overseen by the Czech Ministry of Health and the State Institute for Drug Control, with whom the movement monitor is registered. Every year, experts check whether Nanny still meets with the criteria for medical devices by an independent audit.

There are many movement monitors available on the market butt their main disadvantage is that the movement monitoring is thier secondery function and therfore they do not need to comply under the same strict rules as the Nanny monitor for testing and distribution.

How do I know the movment monitor is working properly?

1. Install Nanny in the cot according to the instruction manual.
2. Insert the batteries, which are part of the package in the monitoring unit.
3. Switch on the breathing monitor.
4. Each time it is turned on, the unit conducts an automatic functionality test - all lights will flash briefly and the monitor beeps.
5. Test the sensor pad with the baby. Place the baby in the cot and see how the green light flashes. This signals everything is OK.
6. Take the baby out of the crib while the monitor is still switched on. Don’t touch the cot, the device could sense your movements and your breathing.
7. The light will keep flashing green for approximately twenty seconds and will follow with red light will and loud alarm.
8. Switch off the movement monitor.

What is the difference between Nanny and other movment monitors?

The Nanny movement monitor is an EU certified medical device. Therfore it meets with very strict requirements and it is also being used in maternity wards.

Nanny is maufactured in the Czech Republic by JABLOTRON, a well-known company for its top-quality alarm systems. We are usinig state of the art technologies in the R&D procees of the movement monitor and carefully testing each unit during production.

The sensor pad, with its dimensions of 305 × 500 × 15 millimeters, is the largest that excist in the market and therfore you only need one pad for the cot which redundant the need for more connetion cords and potential melfunctions. If the baby often sleeps in another place, you can buy an extra pad.

The movment monitor has very low power consumption, which allowing long use of batteries.

What maintenance does the movement monitor require?

No special maintenance is required except for replacing the batteries. Please make sure there is no moisture between the pad and the mattress. We recommend airing the mattress occasionally or rotating it to change the sides between the head and foot. Another option is to flip the mattress.

If the sensor pad becomes dirty, clean it with a slightly moistened cloth or with antibacterial wipe which is included in the package. Do not wash the pad or have it with direct contact with water or use aggressive detergents.

Why did the Nanny monitor alarm go off, when the baby was moving normally and regularly?

Babies up to 3 months of age may have a low weight and they do not change their position in bed offenly. It is recommended that you place the sensor pad under the sheet, towel or blanket the baby lies on. This helps to minimize false alarms. Once the infant starts to roll and crawl, return the sensor pad under the mattress.

If the baby should lie on a slope, when the head is higher than the entire body (following doctor’s orders), it is still necessary to maintain close contact between the baby, the mattress and the sensor pad. Check the mattress lies entirely on the sensor pad with its own weight. It is better to raise the legs of the cot rather than the mattress.

The mattress must be firmly gripped by the sides of the bed and shouldn’t be “hanging” above the bed’s base.

Why the alarm didn't go off after taking the baby out of the crib?

No special maintenance is required except for replacing the batteries. Please make sure there is no moisture between the pad and the mattress. We recommend airing the mattress occasionally or rotating it to change the sides between the head and foot. Another option is to flip the mattress.

If the sensor pad becomes dirty, clean it with a slightly moistened cloth or with antibacterial wipe which is included in the package. Do not wash the pad or have it with direct contact with water or use aggressive detergents.

How can the Nanny be used for twins?

Each of the twins must have his own crib without any physical contact between them. Each baby must have his own independent Nanny system. It is not possible to use two separate sensor pads connected to one control unit because the movement from one twin would be detected and prevent any potential movement (or lack thereof) of the other twin from being detected.

Is it possible to use the Nanny in a cradle (swinging), pram or Moses basket?

It is only possible to use the Nanny in a pram if the pram is not moving and is not being touched by anyone. It needs to be positioned in a quiet place away from environmental vibrations. The same conditions apply for cradles and Moses baskets.

Why is there a low battery warning just after switching on the device?

Every time the device is switched on, it performs a load test of the battery. All three lights flash and the breathing monitor beeps. Thanks to this you know that everything is functioning. If the batteries are starting to fade, the device will warn you in advance by flashing the red light. If there is a danger the battery will go flat, the device will not start at all.

Please do not use rechargeable batteries as their voltage is lower and may trigger false alarms. Only use alkaline batteries.

What should I do in case of malfunction?

Normally this can be caused by a damaged cable or its connector. It could be the result of pulling, possibly by the baby, or the cable not being attached to the crib in accordance with the outlined instruction in the user manual. Another reason could be damage to the pad caused due to dropping it on the floor, bending and etc.

How to choose the right mattress for our crib?

The height of the mattress should not be up to 4.5 inches . If it was too thick, the sensor pad might not be able to capture the baby’s movements well. We also do not recommend using mattresses made of hard material such as foam polystyrene, etc. These materials capture vibrations that spread through the air and can confuse the monitor.

Can I use Nanny in a pram, cradle or basket?

The movement monitor can only be used when the pram is standing still and no one is touching it in order to avoid interfirances to the sensor pads.

Only use the movement monitor in quiet places and without winds. If for example the pram stands in a balcony, the sensitive sensor pad could capture the slight vibrations of the wind and will interfire the device to monitor the movements of your baby.

It is always important to test the movement monitor before using it and to follow the guidelines outlined in the user manual. Turn it on in the cot, but do not place the baby in. If Nanny triggers an alarm after twenty seconds, you can be sure there is no source of interfering vibrations anywhere nearby.

Can I use Nanny for a second child?

The sensor pad has a lifespan of two years, after which it loses its sensitivity and should no longer be used. Simply buy a new pad for your next baby and connect it to the original control unit. If it beeps and all the indicators flash, everything is fine and you can still keep using Nanny.

Can I buy second-hand Nanny?

Due to the sensitivity of the sensors of the pad, a second-hand monitor should not be bought, and the pad should not be used any longer.

The lifespan of sensor pad is two years, after which it should no longer be used.

Nevertheless, if you have an older Nanny control unit, you can continue using it, but a new sensor pad should be bought. When all parts are connected, insert new batteries and follow the installation instructions in the user manual to verify the unit works properly before using it.
